World Cup Widows

Friday 11th June

Ok so you’ve heard all the hype and today is the day. The World Cup 2010 has literally just kicked off. England might win, at which point we will be very excited indeed. We’ll even start showing a real interest if they make it to the final but for now, we kinda wanna avoid the hype. If you do too or if you are dreading (or relishing) the thought of being a World Cup widow, then this is for you – some alternate (and money saving) ways to fill your time.

Avoid the aftermath tonight in a truly distracting way by booking some last minute theatre tickets at http://www.lastminute.com. Our pick is Wicked, with tickets discounted down to a fab £15.

England face the USA tomorrow so while the boys are busy, why not hang out with the girls and if you haven’t already, check out SATC 2 (we loved it). Catch up over pre-film cocktails and look out for 2 for 1 deals and ladies nights.  Check out http://www.visitlondon.co.uk for recommendations. Or, do it true chiconomise style and make your own cocktails at home.

Another Friday night match on the 18th so rather than go out, rediscover the joy of staying in.  Invite the girls round for a  chick flick. T-Mobile and Blockbuster have teamed up to offer 5 things for £5. It includes films, snacks and games. Bargain. Check it out here: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/uk/nightin/

Wednesday 23rd sees England v Slovenia. Enjoy the peace and quiet at home and get your nose stuck into a good book. http://www.amazon.com are offering up to 50% off new releases (have you checked out Steig Larsson books yet?).

Who knows if England will make it further than this but keep checking back here for plenty of alternatives to the world cup with discounts, competitions and articles to keep you busy during Wold Cup season.

After all, where is the appeal in watching 11 fit men – with bulging muscles and wearing shorts – chasing after a ball and um, each other?

My apologies chiconomistas, I seem to be getting a little distracted…
