The Truth About Volunteering
I was thinking about volunteering this year. And my biggest question was where to volunteer. So I asked a friend of a friend what suggestions they might have and instead of answering my question, I got this reply: ‘Volunteering isn’t exactly money-savvy, is it?’
Ok.
Yes, being money-savvy is my job. But it doesn’t dominate everything I do: I’ve ran marathons for charity and volunteered my time and effort to raise money for other causes. Yes, volunteering isn’t money-savvy because you don’t get paid any money for your time. And yes, the company you volunteer for is saving money by not hiring someone to do what you do for free. (And most of the time, they can’t afford to.) Yet, I think I’ve gotten a lot out of my volunteer experiences, including gratitude and even some new skills and more.
Now, that brings me to my next thought: Here at chiconomise.com we are looking for editorial interns. Although we can’t pay you, we pay you in full with experience. So if you or someone you know is looking for an editorial internship, a chance to work in the exciting world of online publishing, check out our post at Gorkana. (Just click on the internship page.)
Good luck!
Love,
Michelle
