Illamasqua

If there's one beauty brand you need to know it has to be Illamasqua, with a colour spectrum that puts a rainbow to shame, it is the ultimate make up range.

Based on the theatrical make up of 1920s Berlin each piece is created to have maximum impact and durability.

The brains behind the brand Julian Kynaston was the man behind GHD, and you know how you couldn’t live without those. But it’s not all big ideas and no substance. Kynaston decided to hook up with a theatrical make up company called Kryolan. This company is the world leader in make up for TV and film, and it was set up by Arnold Langer a chemist with an interest in professional make up in Berlin in the 1920s. So you see we’ve come full circle. With a man who knows how to create a brand every girl wants, and a company who know make up, a heavenly creation is born.

If there has ever been a shade you particularly wanted in a nail varnish, eye shadow, foundation, whatever it is, it’s almost certain Illamasqua will have it. They have a palette completely unrivalled by other brands. The thinking behind the brand is that it will attract loyal customers, it’s unlikely you’ll ever get bored bcause there are so many colours.

Our Top 5:

1. Sheer lipgloss, in Electrify, £12.50

Wow, this was general gasp of amazement from passers bys after we had slicked this little stick of wonder over our pout. Yes if you want high impact shine and a fab colour to boot, this is a must have.

2. Cream blusher, in Devour, £16.00

For an intense flush this is a must. It looks a little scary in the box, but this is a colour you can build up, or just use a light dab for a natural colour. It’s so easy to use which puts it our dream make up bag.

3. Powder eye shadow, in Never, £14.00

You may be surprised to learn that navy is an easy shade to wear. For dark eyes it brings out the natural green. For blue eyes it makes the irises pop out. It’s a fabulous seasonless shade, and this is one of the best navys we’ve seen.

4. False eye lashes, No. 20, £11.00

These really do rival Shu Umuera, they are the most feminine shape around. If you want a dramatic, sensual look then look no further, for these beauties will create cats eyes out of any eye shape.

5. Eyeliner cake and sealing gel, in Danger, £16.00

Now this is an eyeliner!  Paint it on then seal with the gel and your eye make up will literally stay on all day. This is proper hardwearing eyeliner, and gorgeous to boot. Our fave is Danger, which is a fabulous teal shade, it’s subtle yet captivating.

6. Nail Varnish, in Muse £12.50

It's hardwearing, looks great, and the colours are fab. We love this Muse shade, but are also rather taken with the varnish created for Selfridges' birthday which comes in that famous yellow.
