If there’s one positive thing about Nicole Richie becoming a mother, other than the fact it steered her away from DUI’s, hard partying and Paris Hilton, it’s that it has massively improved her sense of style.

Gone are the teeny tiny outfits. Instead, Nicole has turned to maxi dresses to make a statement, proving that you don’t have to be wearing next to nothing to look sexy, nor do you have to be 5’11!

The boho print maxi dress is everywhere this season with followers choosing to wear them at every opportunity, from day to night, at weddings and even on the beach. Nicole cleverly opts for something in between which can be dressed up or down. Although considering the vast collection of maxi dresses she’s been spotted in recently, we’re not sure the versatility of her purchases is something she ever needs to contemplate.

To imitate Nicole’s look we’ve found this gorgeous animal print maxi dress, £50 from Miss Selfridge. The halter neck means it’s perfect for petites like Nicole and especially flattering for those with a small top half. The high waistband and draping skirt also streamlines the figure and gives the appearance of longer legs.  

Another big look for this summer is contrasting girly items with tougher pieces. This, £225, All Saints belvedere jacket is a worthwhile investment and a similar version to the one fellow grunge fashion follower Ashley Olsen is often seen out and about in. Finally, add a matching leather bag for a laid back vibe. This one, £35 from Topshop has a great vintage feel to it.
