Wear rolled up jeans

You may have noticed a rather prominent trend emerging, one for rolled up trousers. And here's how to wear them:

Yes wherever you look there are store mannequins and fashionistas posing in rolled up jeans and chinos. The problem with this trend is the best shape that works is the baggy boyfriend jean. And the problem with this jean is that it adds bulk even to the tiniest frame. But here are our top tips for tackling this look:

  1. Know your legs – this is a trend suited to those with longer legs, and those blessed with such lovely limbs should opt for a turnover that sits on the ankle. If you have a shorter leg length then try and get a pair that will turn up mid calf, if you’re still worried about cutting yourself in half, then turn up some shorts for a similar effect.
  2. Go shorter – As a rule, we would suggest going for the next leg length down than you would usually take. If you have opted for a boyfriend cut then these tend to look better full length on the ankle anyway. The slightly shorter length is just that bit more flattering and will make more of a statement.
  3. It’s all in the thighs – You know your shape, and you know what suits it. If boyfriend jeans just don’t work on your body, then try a skinny jean. You won’t get quite the same roll up effect, but it looks great and is a little easier to wear.
  4. In the wash – This is the other trick to roll up jeans, choosing the right shade. The ones high in fashion are bleached and ripped. Bleach needs to be put on slim legs, because the fading has a tendency to make legs look bigger. If you want to slim yourself down choose a darker denim. As for rips, ones high on the thigh don’t really work unless you’re Victoria Beckham. We would suggest choosing ripped knees and rips at the lower half of the leg.
  5. Getting dressed – Roll ups look best with heels. Team with towering platforms or delicate courts for different looks. They can work with pumps, but beware they don’t always create the most flattering silhouette. Blazers are definitely a must for your top half, and whether you choose a little tee or shirt they will look great with anything. Just don’t choose pieces that are too baggy.
