Shoes are to women what porn is to men. Neither sex understands the other’s obsession, but both will go to extreme lengths to satisfy their needs. We battle through blister after blister, carrying weird shaped plasters in our handbags, shuffling along streets in agony and changing into flip flops as soon as we're out of sight. Galahad Clark is yet another man who doesn’t understand the importance of shoes. Clark is the owner of an ethical shoe shop called Terra Plana. He believes that shoes are bad us, and is backed up by health specialists and chiropodists; in 2006, a study showed that shoes damage your knees far more than if you were to walk barefoot. Although he believes barefoot is the way forward, he realises the impracticability of this and has created a shoe shop selling thin soled, damage limitation footwear with no midsole, heel or arch support. This footwear phenomenon has proved a hit, and Clark is set to release a children’s range and running range by the end of the year. So for those who are as concerned as Clark, visit www.vivobarefoot.com. As for the rest of us, we do sort of already know that Louboutins and Jimmy Choos damage our feet, but do we look bothered?
