Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud has launched the Grand Designs British Refurb Campaign. It is aimed at getting the Government to help people financially and allow them to make their homes more eco-friendly, therefore reducing the impact on the environment and in turn reducing our energy bills. They say “show your support the Grand Designs Great British Refurb campaign by writing to the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown”, but don't worry you don't actually have to write to the Prime Minister. Instead Kevin McCloud along with the Energy Saving Trust, WWF and UK Building Green Council are asking you to vote here and later this year he will deliver the message to Ten Downing Street. He is fighting for;
-
Offer households new ways to pay for green refurbishment, which would significantly reduce upfront costs and instead spread them over a longer period of time.
-
Provide better financial incentives for householders to refurbish their homes to make them greener and more energy efficient, through substantial government grants, subsidies or tax rebates.
-
Ensure installers are qualified and approved to undertake the work.
