There's no need to head abroad this May when there's sunny Brighton to escape to
In under an hour and a half from London Victoria, you can be riding Dodgems round Brighton Pier with a candyfloss in one hand.
First stop is Brighton’s SEA LIFE centre. It combines grand Victorian architecture with sharks. Situated right beside the pier, with over 150 species, including turtles, manta rays and sea snakes, and 57 displays, it’s a whole afternoons entertainment for £14.50.
Then head to ShakeAway on Bond Street. This milkshake emporium is like being inside a real life Willy Wonka business venture. With what seems like a limitless amount of flavour combinations, these milkshakes are calorie laden with everything from chocolate ice cream, Daim bar and custard creams to Haribo Starmix, Tic Tacs and Jamaica Ginger Cake. With Noel Edmonds, Gok Wan and Justin Lee Collins as celebrity fans, you’ll be slurping in good company.
If you fancy a bit of seaside shopping, but want to avoid the high street chains, head off the beaten track to Snoopers Paradise in Kensington Gardens. It’s a treasure trove of wonders and set up like an indoor market; with a bargain in every nook it’s also perfect to shelter in from the inevitable British summer showers.
Hotel Pelirocco is a hip boutique hotel unlike any other in the UK. With nineteen bedrooms inspired by pop culture, sexy sirens and maverick musicians, this is the place to stay for the sartorially obsessed. Situated bang on the beachfront, you can be your own 1950s pin-up in Betty’s boudoir (inspired by Betty Page) or get it on in the Motown room with a vintage record player, vinyl and Smokey Robinson’s blessing.
If you fancy something a bit more traditional then make your way to the Royal Albion Hotel. This is a Regency Style Hotel, built in 1826 and is situated in a premier position directly opposite Brighton Pier. You can sit on your own private terrace and watch the sun go down as Pier lights up for the evening.
So go ahead, jump on a train and Brighton up your May Day weekend.
